The 2024 Ford Ranger got a full makeover and it’s better in every way. It looks tougher, drives smoother, and comes packed with way more tech. You’ve got multiple engine options, from the turbocharged 2.3L that’s solid on power to the 2.7L V6 if you want more punch. It’s more comfortable, quieter on the road, and still capable off-road, especially with the FX4 package or the beastly Raptor model.

So, who’s going to love this truck? If you want something bigger than a Maverick but not as bulky as an F-150, the Ranger is a perfect fit. It’s easy to park, can tow up to 7,500 lbs, and is just as happy on city streets as it is in the dirt.

 

Engine and Performance

Every Ranger comes with a 10-speed automatic. RWD is standard, but 4WD is optional on lower trims and standard with the V6 and Raptor. The 2.3L is efficient, the 2.7L pulls harder, and the Raptor is a beast off-road.

The 2024 Ranger gives you three engine options:

  • A base 2.3L Turbo Four-Cylinder delivering 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. This setup is standard on the XL, XLT and Lariat trims. 
  • A 2.7L Twin-Turbo V6 delivering 315 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. This set is available on the XLT and Lariat trims only. 
  • A beastly 3.0L Twin-Turbo V6 delivering 405 hp and 430 lb-ft. of torque—exclusive on the Raptor

 

Ride and Handling

The 2024 Ranger drives like a truck but doesn’t beat you up like one. The suspension is tighter, the ride is smoother, and the body roll is well-controlled. It’s more comfortable on the road, with less bounce and better shock absorption, even over rough pavement.

The steering is light and easy to manage, making it a breeze to park and maneuver in tight spots. It’s more stable on highways, and while it’s not the most athletic midsize truck, it handles corners better than before.

For off-roading, the FX4 package adds all-terrain tires, a locking rear differential, and tuned shocks for better trail performance. But if you want serious off-road chops, the Raptor is the real deal. It’s built for high-speed desert runs, rocky terrain, and anything in between.

The 2024 Ford Ranger can tow up to 7,500 lbs and haul a payload of up to 1,805 lbs, putting it at the top of the midsize truck class. That’s more towing power than the Toyota Tacoma which only maxes out at 6,500 lbs and the GMC Canyon, which only tops at 7,000 lbs. The Ranger’s 7,500-lb towing capacity matches the Chevy Colorado but beats most other rivals, making it one of the most capable midsize trucks for serious towing and hauling.

The 2.3L EcoBoost engine gets 21 mpg city / 25 mpg highway with RWD and 20/24 mpg with 4WD. The Raptor’s 3.0L V6 is less efficient at 17 mpg combined, but that’s expected for a high-performance off-roader.

Compared to the competition, the Ranger does well. The GMC Canyon gets 18/23 mpg with RWD and 17/21 mpg with 4WD, making the Ranger slightly more efficient. The Toyota Tacoma offers up to 20/26 mpg in gas models and 22/24 mpg for the hybrid. While the Tacoma hybrid edges out the Ranger, the Ford still delivers strong fuel economy for a truck that tows more and offers better power options.

 

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo 

The 2024 Ranger’s cabin is modern, comfortable, and way more refined than the previous models. The seats are supportive, with available leather and power adjustments on higher trims for extra comfort. The SuperCrew cab comes standard, giving passengers plenty of space, though taller adults in the back might feel a little snug. No rear air vents, which isn’t great for hot days.

Storage is solid. There’s a big center console, dual glove boxes, under-seat compartments, and a flat-folding rear seat for extra cargo space. The 5-foot bed is the only option, but it fits 4×8 sheets of plywood with the tailgate down. Higher trims add a spray-in bedliner, a built-in power outlet, and an easy-access side step. Practical, simple, and ready for whatever you throw in it.
